Cupboard Essentials

I think we all have our basic and fundamental ingredients that most, if not all, of our meals use. We’re talking about oils, herbs, spices, condiments that we use time and time again for a lot of our recipes. We all have them, but I imagine that some people have a wider range of items than others. I think mine is probably somewhere in the middle. It has certainly grown over the past couple of years, I’d love to expand it further and make it more varied and exciting.

I’ve listed my current staples below in sections to make it easier to read. Of course, these are not the only ingredients I use, but they are the ones I usually need to have in the cupboards at all times. I hope to add to this as time goes on.

Oils / Fats:

  • Basic olive oil for cooking
  • Greek olive oil for salads
  • Sunflower oil

Sauces/wines:

  • Basic red wine
  • Basic white wine
  • Lemon juice
  • Full fat Greek yogurt (you can use natural yogurt instead)
  • Corn flour
  • Garlic

Herbs & spices:

  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Cumin
  • Turmeric
  • Nutmeg
  • Ground coriander
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Paprika
  • Cinnamon
